What to Expect
You've decided to attend a service at Calvary. That's great!
You may have some questions before attending and that's perfectly normal.
On this page you will find answers to some common questions. If there are any questions you have that may not be answered here or elsewhere on the website, then please send us a message by clicking here.
Calvary is welcome to all who are comfortable with attending in person services. Mask wearing is voluntary and we ask that everybody be respectful of individual decisions regarding this.
Calvary church is located in the Ramsayville area of Ottawa at 3782 Russell Rd. We are situated in close proximity to the 417 between the Walkley Road and Hunt Club Road exits.
We have ample parking space at our church building. Designated accessible parking spots are available near the front entrance. Passenger drop off may also be done at the front entrance doors, if needed.
It is suggested that if you are planning to take public transit to attend a worship service at Calvary to check out the OC Transpo website. If you are taking public transit, please contact us as we may be able to arrange someone to meet you at the closest bus stop or a nearby location to assist you in getting to the church.
The main entrance at Calvary church is at ground level, leading in to the fellowship hall. There is an elevator that provides access to the sanctuary and the basement. Additionally, there are two fully accessible bathrooms.
When attending a church service, a common misconception is that you must attend in your best “Sunday” attire. While some enjoy or feel more comfortable wearing a dress, or a shirt and tie, others prefer to come in something less formal. There is no formal dress code if you are coming to Calvary, we encourage everyone to wear what is comfortable to them. Whether that is your favourite tee and jeans from high school or the fancy outfit you never have the opportunity to wear, everyone is welcome.
Calvary offers nursery for children ages 0 to 3 and those in Junior Sunday School (ages 4 to 7) and Middle Sunday School (ages 8 to 11) may go to classes after Children’s Time during the service. Senior Sunday School (10 to 14-year-olds) will typically attend classes after the sermon. During the summer months the Sunday School program is modified. We invite you to contact the Education Committee chairperson, via the Contact Us if you have any questions.
Our weekly worship service begins at 10AM every Sunday. If a service happens to be cancelled, every effort is made to publish this on the home page of the website as soon as possible. If the weather does not appear to be favourable, you may also call the church to confirm the service is still scheduled to commence.
Calvary follows a more traditional order of worship. A sample of this may be found by viewing the bulletins on the website.
Music at Calvary is a blend of traditional and contemporary music led by our Music Director. Calvary is further blessed to have congregational participation in leading worship through musical instruments as well choir participation.
Calvary collects an offering during the service. Information regarding the offerings is located in the bulletin and envelopes are available for those wishing to receive a charitable donation receipt. Giving is not mandatory, but is welcome.
Calvary utilizes a large projection screen to display songs as well as portions of the service. Song books and Bibles are also available in the pews. If you require hearing assistance, please see the sound technicians at the back of the sanctuary.
Generally, after the service there will be refreshments (coffee, tea, juice) and great conversation in the fellowship hall. If you are a guest at Calvary, you may be greeted by various members of our congregation. Guests may also prefer to seek out the pastor, or the elder of service to ask questions or just to say hello. We know everybody has a different comfort level and every person is welcome to attend for any portion of the Sunday service.
